Jericho Hudson (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) ist ein Junge von der Straße mit einer außergewöhnlichen Begabung für Pool Billard. Das hat auch „Cue Ball“ Carl Bridges (Ving Rhames), ein legendärer Pool-Spieler, erkannt und ihn unter seine Fittiche genommen. Damit gerät Jericho allerdings auch in die zwielichtige Schattenwelt des Billards und in einen gefährlichen Wettstreit zwischen Cue Ball und Timothy Mortensen, einem korrupten Cop vom Sittendezernat, der von verzeifeltem Hass und einer dunklen Vergangenheit mit Cue Ball getrieben scheint. Jericho steigt in den Wettkampf mit ein und zeigt plötzlich seine bisher unbekannte, heimtückische Seite. Mit List und Tücke manövriert er Cue Ball und Mortensen aufeinander zu, so dass es zu einem explosiven Showdown kommt.
